Would You Trash the Dress?

Happy hump day! So...this morning I was surfing the net looking for advertising contacts when I came across something that caught my eye - an article with the title Trash the Dress. What? Huh? Trash what dress I wondered.

Well...it turns out that there is a new trend alert for brides to be. Trashing your wedding dress in your photos to create enthralling photography. What do ya think?

MSN said it perfectly so I just have to borrow their words:

"Wedding gowns find life after nuptials in "trash the dress" photos – an increasingly popular trend in bridal photography. Brides wear the dresses for photo shoots in locations that are anything but glamorous -- from junkyards and railroad tracks to swamps and even underwater. The gowns go out in a mess of glory, as most are destroyed during the process. These photos have been collected on Trashthedress.com. Take a look at some of the wild ways wedding dresses have made their final appearances."

So let's do just that, shall we? Let's check out some of these fabulous pictures, of, um, well, trashing dresses. I hope you are okay with this. I know I am.

Oh and here is the link to the Trash the Dress site

Whoah, very sexy!

Dreamy but it would be very cold, right?

Kind of spooky but beautiful in the same way

They are having way too much fun!

K, this one reminds me more of Halloween than a wedding

Need some beach dirt by chance to celebrate?

Okay, this one is just plain cool.

So how about it Ocean Dreamers? Would you trash your wedding dress for some out of this world, incredible photos for your wedding?

I would if:
A. I had enough money to have two wedding dresses (one to be trashed, one for the day of)
B. My groom was in favor of it and it didn't require cold water or some other kind of crazy outside element (dirt or paint might be fun)

Have an amazing night tonight, I am going out for sushi for dinner, yum!

XOXO,

  1. Oh my gosh. I think my requirements to do this are the same as yours. Lol. If I had money for two dresses I would totally do this. But yeah, I probably will just have one wedding dress and my heart would stop if I got a speck of dirt on it, much less an entire bucket of paint.
    But they are cool photos!

  2. YESSS!!! why the heck not! it's not like you wear that dress any other day AND AND AND you spend so much money on it for it to get dusty in the closet when in fact you could be making beautiful magic with some photographer. i'm ALL for it!

  3. Hmmm I was too busy trashing the marriage to think about it

  4. Yes! I totally would. Hopefully you'll only wear it once anyway, right? And then even if you do have another I doubt you'll wear the same gown.

I think this should totally apply to bridesmaid dresses too. How many bridesmaid dresses do you have taking up space in your closet ready to be trashed. :)

  5. Ok, I'm pretty sure I've said this a bazillion times, I don't want to have a wedding. But if that weren't the case, I'M WITH BANANAS!!!! I mean, why not?

  6. I'm totally for it too. You could get some fabulous pictures with trashing the dress. When else are you going to wear it again??

  7. Oh these are inspiring. I think I would definitely trash my wedding dress (if I had one) for beautiful photographs

  8. My wedding photographer takes these! She's in some official association or something for this. I didn't do them, but only because I took bridal pictures and we did engagement pics before the wedding and I didn't feel the need for still MORE pictures of us. I love the idea though and I've seen some really amazing ones!

  9. I trashed mine! I did it here in the Atlantic Ocean! I love the paint though that would have been awesome!!!!

  10. I am all for it...I wandered into the surf in mine. I just took it to the cleaners after.

    I love the photos!

    Enjoy your sushi...yummy...

  11. I totally agree with your stipulations! I didn't spend a lot on my dress so i guess I could be okay with it but part of me wants to save it for my kids to play with! I don't know. those are really cool photos!

  12. Love it... I would so do it. Especially the water pics... I just love them... and water dries, so no real harm, right??

  13. I TOTALLY wanted to "Trash my dress" after my wedding! oh my gosh! I think it is the BEST idea ever for some of the most fabulous pictures ever. I was in MExico when I got married and I wanted pics. in the ocean sooooo bad!!! I love it!

  14. I would totally do it if I had the same stipulations as you - enough money for 2 dresses so one could get trashed and the other preserved! :)

  15. NOOOO! Lol we were JUST talking about this at work today!! My grandmother saved her wedding dress and used it to sew my mom's ring bearer pillows and my mom's outfit she wore to leave the reception. A great way to recycle a wedding gown!

  16. I absolutely LOVE it and I would do it if I could get such awesome pics!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love this! I don't think I would go so crazy! But you do only get to where the dress one day! So I think it is a good idea! :)

  18. What a great idea! Why not?! Hmm...something to consider!

  19. Wow! Haha I never thought about that. That last photo is absolutely GORGEOUS. I think if it were us, our wedding dresses would be green and white from all the avocado and sushi we'd be scarfing down. Trashy enough? Better yet, let's just roll in food (while eating it of course).

  20. Oh hun this would be a tuffy question for me. I'd have to do the two dress thing, cuz omg I have a feeling i'd have a fit in something happened to my future wedding dress. I like the sand picture!!

  21. I just love the underwater photo's they are just gorgeous.

Not sure I could do this myself, but love to see the pictures of others doing it :o

  22. I totally heard about this! I kind of love the idea. What else are you going to do with the thing?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. no no no I could never do this! The only thing that I was thinking I could do is shorten mine so I may be able to wear it again because I love it so much!! These pictures are beautiful but I won't lie, some of them make me cringe!!

I love the new colors and Lay out of your page!

  24. I would TOTALLY trash my own dress if I looked back on it to get phenomenal pictures like these!!

  25. I'm going to go with a big fat no on this one. I've never been married, but after talking to my married girlfriends I know their most treasured possession is their dress. To me, it would hold the memories of such a wonderful day and I'd hate to trash them by rolling around in a pile of dirt. However, if I did have the money for a spare dress...

  26. That's interesting b/c I actually saw a picture like these at my salon. The stylists' daughter had her dress on while she was walking in the water at the beach. Her dad told her to go ahead and get in the water b/c she'd never wear the dress again. Now the paint...not that big of a fan.

  27. I love this idea! It would be so much fun to do thi with paint and mud. ooo, I'm getting excited now. But, I agree: onlt if I had enough money to buy 2 dresses! Actaully, you only wear wedding dresses once, so why not trash it afterwards, lol

  28. That looks like so much fun! Have a sweet day!

  29. wow wow this is so interesting! never heard of it before. and i love it! its such gorgeous and unique photography. i dont see why not.

were you really looking for `advertising contacts` ha ha... you can tell me the truth :p

  30. These photos look amazing, and yet... and yet I just don't think I could do it! To have spent so much money and put so many memories into a dress like your wedding dress, I tihnk I'd rather it sat in my wardrobe unworn but taken out every so often than destroyed and thrown away, even if the photos are amazing.

Yikes, I never knew I was that romanitc and sentimental!

  31. I REALLY wanted to do a TTD shoot after our wedding, but to be honest, I couldn't afford another photo shoot after all the money we put out for the wedding. I definitely would have done some pics in the ocean and on the sand, since that has been a theme in our relationship. We ended our engagement pics IN the freezing ocean in March (I think) and then got married on the same beach. Would have been cool to follow that all up with a TTD shoot in the same place! :(

  32. I totally want to do this!!!

  33. totallt depends on the dress, or you could just have a back up trash dress :)

just found your blog, to cute!
    new follower!

  34. I couldn't do it unless money were no object and I had one specifically for trashing. But then I would feel wasteful, so I prob wouldn't do it after all. They do make killer pics though!

  35. I'm torn because on one hand, my dress is just sitting in a box right now, never to be worn again unless I have a daughter some day that wants to wear it. On the other hand, those photos were amazing, and I would love to have something so cool and creative. I felt bad getting sand on my dress at the beach where I got married, so I might struggle with dousing it in paint or dirt... :) Cool post!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I still want to do this! I don't think I will do anything quite so drastic, but still...I want some fun out of the ordinary photos!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. They are enthralling but I would have been crushed to see it destroyed - no, I still would be... no, under no circumstances, that thing was a work of art on its own, it deserves better...

    Interesting, however.

  38. I learned about this like 5 months ago and fell in love with the idea. I am 85% sure I am going to do this after my wedding. The dress will hang in my closet forever or I could have awesome pictures...
Since my wedding is on a beach in flip flops for my trash the dress session I want to do it in winter in Chicago with my Ugg boots and a winter scarf and jacket in the snow downtown in an urban setting.

  39. Oh, noooooooooo.... Wedding dress is something so special. I didn't have a wedding dress - had a beautiful light blue dress with silver embroidery, but if I had a beautiful magical white dress I'd keep it. I think it's such a beautiful tradition to have this dress in a box, wrapped in gorgeous tissue paper and one day your daughter or niece finds it, puts it on and feels like a princess. Later one, she may even want to wear it as her wedding dress.

  40. you know what...I WOULD. but only if I mentally prepare myself at least a year in advance! AND...I'll have to have 2 wedding dresses, so even if one's trashed....one more to the rescue!! xx

    ReplyDelete
  41. They make some cool photos... but I'm not quite sure I could do it. I guess I'd have to be approached with the opportunity for a free photo session... not sure I could pay for that.

  42. I've married without a wedding dress..., so no attachment there. Many of the brides seem to love the water!

    ReplyDelete
  43. i think i would do it if i were able to have 2 dresses as well...or just a really good dry cleaners! hehe. I love love love the one of the girl in the water, it looks so beautiful, but cold i bet! Happy almost friday girlie!

ps, i'm planning on emailing you soon but i've been super busy with midterms this week. Thanks again though!!

  44. I love the pictures, but I'm not sure I can imagine trashing the dress!

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is so crazy! I don't think I have enough guts to do this!

    ReplyDelete
  46. WOW!! These are so great pictures!!....eek I don't know, if I knew EXACTLY how the paint would turn out in the end, then maybe;)

    ReplyDelete
  47. i think it's a super fun idea!! if i ever have a wedding dress, i would love to do it!

  48. My mom handmade my wedding dress, and the fabric alone was more than those dresses but if i had an extra one around, yes, it sounds amazing. however, what would i do to make it messy??
