Family & Future

I hope you all had a nice weekend!
I did, mine was very relaxing.
My eight mile jog on Saturday pretty much
pooped me out for the rest of the weekend.
I think I must have slept something like
12 hours last night - it was well needed rest.

In two weeks my mom will be visiting with
my aunt. I haven't seen my mom in 4
months and I miss her so much!
I've been missing my family a lot lately.
The longest I usually go without seeing
them is 3 months, but as I have been
getting older time seems to go more quickly.
I'm so thankful that BK has become my family.
I know I would be even more lonely without him.
Funny how much I have grown up.
I remember when I went away to college
7 years ago, almost 8 now, I was terrified of leaving
my family - they have always been my rock.
I have so many amazing memories
and still more to come.
Besides BK, my mom is my best friend.
She knows me from the inside out.
Me, my dad, mom, and brother.
The perfect family of 4.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
I have always looked up to my mom and dad.
Their marriage is the one I wish to have some day.
It saddens me thatI am so far away from them.
But I talk to them every day and look
forward to visiting with them during
short trips and family vacations.
I am so looking forward to Maui!!
Here's one of my favorite family photos.
Missing my family has made me look
forward to my future with BK.
Now, more than ever I am
so sure of  our relationship.
I am hoping for a promise
and a bling in the future.
I am holding my breath and of course
I will let you all know!
I can't wait to have my own family.
I love knowing that I have my best friend,
someone who I completely adore and trust.
And then someday a little one,
so perhaps BK & LK will look like this:

I'm excited for my future and have
this immense hope
inside of my heart.
I've always been excited
to have my own family, but lately
(since I hit 25)
it's become more real to me.
I think I'm becoming more comfortable
in my own skin as well and it's exciting to me.
I'm looking forward to my future.
I trust in my love for BK and I can't wait for BK
to meet the rest of my family (ie brother and dad.)
Yes, it's been a bit hard to get them to meet since
we are states a part! I am hoping to solve
this very soon though so my ocean dreams
can become a reality, ha ha.

Here's some quotes that I came across
that give me warm fuzzies about my family.

In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.

-- Eva Burrows

What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories.

-- George Eliot

Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter.

-- Brad Henry

Family faces are magic mirrors looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present, and future.

-- Gail Lumet Buckley

After reading these quotes I feel a bit closer
to them, even though they are far away.
I don't really call me missing them home sickness
any more because I feel quite independent here.
I think I consider it an absence of my heart.
my family is my heart.
And my heart is lonely.
It remains lonely until
I see them once more.

  1. 4 months is really a long time without seeing family! I can't remember ever being away from my family that long. Either I visited them or they came to see me...
It's so good that you're still having a family holiday, too...

  2. My mum is special. My best friend as well. xx

  3. You always have the most beautiful posts. It made me miss my family, even though I see them once a week - they live close by. And I feel the same way about my mom - besides my hubby, she is my absolute best friend.

  4. Wonderful post, family is so wonderful! My husband and I haven't seen either of our families in 7 months! It was hard to leave them, especially to go to a country so far away but I think it is all part of spreading our wings....experiencing life and growing up. Don't give me wrong though, we talk to my mom JUST about every day haha!

So glad to hear you have a wonderful strong family like I do. Such a wonderful thing, and what a beautiful family you are ! xo

  10. Such a sweet post. I bet you miss them a ton. Being states away is hard. Thankfully with internet and all you can talk to them every day. You have a wonderful family. And it's great you now know more than ever where you and BK are. :)
A good long 10 days away this summer with family..that's what you need!

  11. A visit with the fam is the perfect dose of happiness!

  12. I couldn't imagine going more than two weeks without seeing my family. It is half the reason I can't move away, because I know I would miss them entirely too much. Looks like you and your family have a very special bond!

  13. so true! family always brings you back to what is important in life. :) i usually go a month or so at a time without seeing my family, and when we do get together its sooo much fun!

    congrats on the run! whew!

  14. what a lovely post!! family is so important! :)
    vicki xo

  15. This is such a sweet post! I'm sure you'll have another amazing family with BK :)

Have fun with your mom. I'll miss mine like crazy if I don't see her for months as well.

  16. Yay, I'm so glad you get to see you mum soon. It must be really hard not seeing her for that long.

  17. Beautiful post, wonderful quotes! xo

  18. Ok. I'm back already. Your blog is so lovely and inspiring, I became your newest follower so I don't have to miss any posts...

    Have a happy day! xo

  19. Awww you poor thing. I'm sorry you haven't seen your family in ages, but I am glad you will see them soon. I can't even imagine living so far away from my parents. When I go on vacation for a week, I start to miss them. Lol.

I think it's awesome you have such a close relationship with your mom. Not too many of us can say that.

You are so lucky to have such a lovely family and a wonderful bf in your life!! xoxo

  20. love the quotes...your posts always brighten my day! It's great that BK is your family...I know my hubs is my strength and helps me through the bad times. I hope you'll start getting to see your mom more often...sounds like y'all are so close!

  21. Oh, my mom is my best friend too. I don't know where I'd be without her; and I truly cannot imagine not seeing her for more than a day at a time. I'm so glad that you'll be seeing your mom and aunt soon - I imagine you'll have the most amazing time together, my love!! :)

  22. I know exactly how you feel. Well...I take that back not exactly. because I also live away from my family (also, like you just mom, dad, and the brother...the 4 of us) BUT the difference is I go home every weekend to see them. I just cana't stand being away from them!

    They are my rock!

    anyway..encouragement to you girl:)

  23. Awwh, such a sweet post and I can just feel the love you have for them :) I'm glad you have BK to keep you company, but I'm also happy you'll be reunited soon! You look gorgeous in these pics -- and I can tell you're fond of yellow :D Hope you have a great rest of the week!

  24. Aww, such a beautiful post Sierra!
It worries me too, since I might go to Peru this year, which means I'll be far away from my mom and brothers (dad is there at the moment). I can't imagine how much I will miss them...
I'd rather not think about it.
Lovely phrases as well; I'm glad you get to see them soon :)

  25. Family really is everything in my opinion. My parents and bros now live in the same city as I do...but my hubs family is in Europe. We make a point of going ever summer no matter what (more or less) to go visit them. It was a hard decision for my hubs to leave them to come to Canada but he's so happy that we are able to visit regularly!!!
(glad you have such a great relationship with your mom too...I can't imagine not getting along with my mom!)
    have a great monday!

  26. Family is so important! You have such a cute family, I'm not surprised you miss them so much :) My sister lives in VA and my mom lives in Indiana. My dad lives in Indiana, too, but he travels a lot. I just spent some time with my mom last week. Even though we talk almost every day, sometimes I just miss seeing her. She's my best friend, too. I'll be praying for your future with BK. He sounds like a great guy. :) You always have the sweetest posts. I can't believe you ran EIGHT miles. I need to run. I think I'm going to start working out more. You're inspiring. :) I loved the quotes, too! :) :) :)

  27. Sooo glad you have BK. I actually had myself a good cry today because I just got sad that my family is a few hours away (not too bad, I know) but more so because I am going to be 30 and I'm all alone. I always dreamed that by this point in my life I would have my very own family... and I just get sad now and then that I don't.

  28. I just saw my family this month for the first time since Christmas! It was DELIGHTFUL!! I love my family so much! Especially my dad. He is my total favorite!

  29. I can definitely say that my husband is my family!

And Sierra..., you mixed me up with Beach Vintage. Simone sent you Coastal mag..., not me..., I had a hunch and checked on her blog..., and you won the March issue -congrats!!

  30. Hope you have a great visit with your family and definitely hoping your bling comes sooner than later! ;-)

  31. I hope to hear about your bling too! We need to have our little families soon, don't we? I'm excited about having kiddos one day!! My fingers are crossed. Say a little prayer.

  32. you have an awesome blog, keep it up!
    thanks for sharing as always
and thanks for the encouraging comments!

  33. I couldn't agree more. I am so immensely close to my family, and I think that's a big part of why you and I click so well: we're very family oriented people. :)

    Love you.

  34. i feel you...my family is my everything. i'm very protective over them. but at 28, a family of my own is not in the near future and i'm a-ok with that.

  35. wow, 8 miles, I feel like i can only DREAM of being that fit!! I would really struggle to tun one!

  36. I also talk to my mom everyday. I haven't seen my family in as year. A YEARRRR OMG. It's too long, I miss them a lot too.

  37. Aw, this post just filled me with warm fuzzies. :) Glad you are so happy!!! And it's wonderful you get to see your family soon, I know how it is when months go by and you haven't gotten to see them! How did you and BK meet? There is SoCal?

  38. Very sweet post, I love it. It's weird when your boyfriend becomes more than that right? I'm sorry you miss your family so much but I think it's awesome you talk to them every day- what a cute family you have. And yes, I'm 25 too and I'm not in a rush to be pregnant or anything but boy oh boy do I want kids :)

  39. you have such a beautiful family! i hope you get everything you wish for and that you get some bling in the near future!
