Birthday recap, rainbow cupcakes, & Missoni WINNER!

My birthday was wonderful. It was low key and special, just how I like it. Thank you for all of your birthday wishes. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

So...what are some of my birthday highlights?

*Making my first rainbow cake, ie cupcakes. I think they turned out cute but I would have liked to have seen more color. The first layer of cake that you see below in the pics - where is the cupcake is split in half - is a light green, so it didn't show up as well as the blue and pink. It ended up looking like the funfetti cake and not a color.

* Wearing my comfy Missoni skirt. I love it and can't wait to wear it more during the fall and winter time. However, I'm not sure if I like my calf white length leggings with it. It makes me look a little squatty than normal. Lol. What do you think? Honesty please...

* Eating a ton of cupcakes. All I am going to say is...oops and I better start working out! ;)

* My sweet gift from my brother. I love how he wrapped my present. He made it like a cross word puzzle and you had to figure it out. Can you believe my 21 year old brother does thoughtful things like this?! I love it!

* Going to see the movie Drive with my brother. A few of you were wondering how it was. I personally really like it but it has really mixed reviews. Their is a lot of gory violence so if you are really sensitive to violence then it might not be your cup of tea. The reasons I love it? Well, Ryan Gosling is such an amazing actor and I'm not just saying that because he's cute. He really shows his human emotions in this film and it just tugged on my heart strings. If you can look beyond violence (which is for a reason, trust me,) then you will find a gem of a film that symbolizes true love at its finest. Human emotion is portrayed SO well and the characters don't talk as much, which bothers some people, but I happen to think it is beautiful because their emotions are found on their faces and you can tell what they are thinking. Also -the cinematography is breathtaking. Trust me, you will want to see this movie. If you do let me know what you think!

* This is the first birthday I've had with my entire family in a long time. I loved going out to dinner with them, spending time with them, and soaking up precious memories. I know I won't be in Utah much longer so I'm really going to cherish my time here.

* Though it hasn't happened yet, I'll be heading to CA in about a week and celebrating BK and my birthdays together! Our birthdays are one week a part. Yay!

So I made a ginormous collage - are you ready? Scroll to the bottom and you'll find out who the WINNER is of the Missoni giveaway. Thanks to everyone who entered!

Twitter rocks - guest post by Dee

Hello Ocean Dreamers! While I'm writing away today here is a post from Dee (who contacted me via e-mail) for a guest post and wanted to share some Twitter love with you!

By the way, if you ever want to guest post feel free to e-mail me. I'm trying to have a good balance of guest posts and the majority of blogging by me of course, but when I get busy guest posts are very helpful.

I'll be back tomorrow to announce the Target for Missoni Giveaway winner and also share my birthday activities with you! I had a wonderful time.

So while you're tweeting away, enjoy a guest post by a fellow tweeter!

16 Reasons Why Twitter Rocks
Are you still wondering what the appeal of Twitter is? Here are some of the many reasons why this social media site rocks.

1. Keep it short - with only 140 characters to say what you want, tweeting never has to become a chore. If you don't want to write a lot, no problem - just post a quick update and go on your way.
2. You can tweet from anywhere - literally. Whether you're sitting  at home on your leather sofa bed or shooting the breeze in your favorite coffee shop you can send a tweet and let your tweeps know how you're doing. And that's because ...
3. There are tons of ways to tweet. Many people use the mobile Twitter interface or a web app on their smartphone, but if you're traveling with your laptop you can also tweet via the web interface or use an app like Seesmic, Hootsuite or TweetDeck (and there are desktop versions too).
4. There are no rules - or very few. It's not like writing a story or an essay with tons of rules about how you need to structure your tweet. Just write what you want. Some people use good grammar, others use SMS-speak - anything goes on Twitter.
5. You can upload photos (bet you thought you could only do that on Facebook!). Twitter now has a built in photo uploader and the most recent photo shares show on your profile so that anyone who visits can see them. Which brings me to the next point ...
6. You get a great profile which you can customize. Use the built-in Twitter background or add your own. Write a cool bio that makes people want to visit your site - and include a link - free promotion!
7. Keep up with fashion - or anything else you're interested in. Twitter has great search features so you can see what people are tweeting about in real time. And you can save your searches if you want to follow particular topics more than once.
8. Read the hot news. Check out your Twitter page and you'll see what topics are trending in your part of the world. Click on a link to find out what's happening and what people are saying about it. When there's a natural disaster, Twitter is where you're likely to hear the news first, and to get real-time information about what people at the location are experiencing.
9. Follow your favorite blogs. It seems that everyone's got a blog these days and most have a Twitter account. And that's where they share their latest blog posts. Add your favorite fashion and lifestyle bloggers to a Twitter list then check out the list page once a day to see what's happening. And all of this reading will lead to ...
10. Inspiration. There's so much happening on Twitter that it's an idea magnet. Don't miss out - all that reading and searching will provide lots of inspiration for your blog. And as a blogger, there's even more Twitter goodness for you ....
11. Share your blog - with the people who follow you and with the world. All your updates are public and those who like them share them with the people they know via re-tweets. You never know, your content could go viral!
12. Privacy - if you want, you can keep your profile private and approve followers manually. That gives you a lot of control over what your Twitter stream looks like.
13. Industry chats - using hash-tags, there are dozens of Twitter chats for different industries, which take place at set times. And some of the top people in the industry also host live Twitter chats - what's not to like?
14. You can get help - lots of companies are providing customer service through Twitter because it lets them respond almost instantly. So the next time there's a problem with you latest pair of shoes, check out the company on Twitter and tweet your problem - you'll be amazed how quickly it will be solved.
15. You can give help. Want to let your readers know the latest fashion deals? Twitter is the quickest way to do that.
16. It's free and it works - 'nuff said

I could keep going, but I won't because it's time for you to discover your own reasons why Twitter rocks!

Thanks Dee - I think that Twitter rocks too! Come and tweet with me @paigeone4u Ocean Dreamers! ;)

All About Absorbing and Amazing Dry Shampoo

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TRESemmé for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have a confession. I have a really oily scalp which leads to oily hair. It really gets annoying because I straighten my hair and by the next day my hair strands are already sticking together. Gross! Oil on your hair and face are generally a good thing because they keep you looking younger (more moisture,) but when it comes to my hair it's frustrating. I don't like washing my hair every day or every other day!

I didn't really know that much about dry shampoo, but then I heard about this product and how it works wonders on your hair. You spray it in your hair and then massage it in, evenly distributing it throughout your hair. TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo I admit is not a product that I've tried yet, but from all of the positive reviews I'm most definitely going to head out and buy some. Oily hair no more!!

So I actually did not understand how to use TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo or any dry shampoo for that matter, so here are some tips on how to get the best results for your hair:

1. Shake the dry shampoo product prior to using so that it gets all mixed up. Also shake in-between spraying in your hair.

2. Don't forget about sections of your dry hair and spray gently at your roots.

3. Holding the bottle 8-12" away from your hair, spray in short bursts.

4. Don't over do it. This isn't hair spray. ;) Leave it in for 1-2 minutes. Now use a brush or use your fingers to distribute the product all over your hair. Tada! Your hair is refreshed and clean.

I can't wait to try this dry shampoo! It cleans your hair and absorbs oil and any odor without any water! The citrus extracts leave a pleasant smell in your hair as well.

Here is what their full line includes:

o Strengthening Dry Shampoo: The formula, with B12 vitamins and keratin, helps strengthen hair and leaves it full of healthy body.

o Volumizing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with mineral clay and citrus, removes oil while injecting hair with salon-gorgeous volume.

o Smoothing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with Vitamin H & Silk Proteins, refreshes your straight style by removing excess oil, impurities and odor to ensure your smooth look lasts.

o Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo: The formula, with Witch Hazel, Citrus, and Aloe Vera, refreshes your hair by removing excess oil, impurities and odor while moisturizing hair.

Last, but certainly not least, Tanya Burr has teamed up with TRESemme and created a video tutorial so that you know how to use your dry shampoo correctly. You can watch it below! She is also giving away a $500 Gift Card to TARGET so be sure to enter after watching the video! ;)

I can't wait to head out and buy some dry shampoo and freshen up my oily (let's be honest here) locks!

Have any of you tried dry shampoo Ocean Dreamers! What's your take?

27 years of birthday dreaming

Hi Ocean Dreamers! So today is my birthday! So far it's been a good one.

I woke up to yummy smokies and blueberry muffins, yum!

Next I'll be headed out to lunch with my Grandma...
Okay I'm not making fun at my Grandma at all but isn't this picture funny and cute at the same time? Maybe when I'm a Grandma one day I'll have pink hair. Just. Kidding. Anyway...she's a great blogger and if you want to check out her blog click on the picture.

Followed by seeing the movie Drive (Ryan Gosling, swoon!) with my brother. I'll let you know how it is.
Last night we (family and I) went to a fabulous restaurant called Tucanos Brazilian Grill. Sooo good! They actually bring the meat to you and slice it off and tada - you are ready to eat! You have a Tucanso "Cue" which directs all of the serves. The green side means I want more and the red side means you are finally finished. You know they are trying to get you to stop eating when they say something like: "So, do you have any special requests?" Lol. This is definitely a meat lovers dream and they have a salad bar too to even out the meal.

This isn't my image...just for an example so you can visualize it:
There's only one thing missing on my birthday: my love BK. His birthday is actually on the 30th so we are going to have a big celebration when I head back to CA for a week in October. I miss him but can't wait for our birthday celebrations ahead.
My BK knows me well...we text all of the time via pictures and he came across this picture. I haven't had the chance (keep forgetting) to ask him where it came from. I'm thinking it's a painting. Gorgeous, right? Anyway...since I'm not by my BK or ocean today, this is the "pretend me" having fun by the water.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!

Oh and since it's my birthday I think you should go and enter into 2 pretty fabulous giveaways:

Missoni For Target Giveaway - ending today

If the Shoe Doesn't Fit foldflop Giveaway

wishful ticking - guest post by Ashley

Hi Ocean Dreamers, since this week is crazy busy for me, my friend Ashley is going to help my blog stay on task and it's really right on time! ;) Okay, I'll stop with my corny time jokes.

Speaking of birthday is this Friday! I'll be back then to write a post entailing what I'm doing. It's going to be low key yet fun!

Hope your week is going well!

Fashion Watch: Watches

Watches are good for much more than just telling time. They're one of the hottest selling accessories of all time for both men and women – and that's a rare occurrence.

You can use a watch to jazz up your everyday outfit, add extra shimmer to a little black dress or add a distinguished flare to a sleek business suit. I wear a watch with almost every outfit, yet still use my phone to check to the time. It's really all about aesthetics.

Whether you're more into luxury watches, versatile diesel watches, or sporty watches you can use your timepiece in more ways than you may have thought.

Everyday Watches

One of my latest watch discoveries puts a fun spin on a traditional style. Snap band watches are fun, colorful watches made of silicon or rubber and are a great way to add more visual interest to your basic jeans and t-shirt daily wear. They're affordable, durable and versatile!

Wearing casual watches is a great way for guys to add a little something extra to a basic outfit without looking done-up, extravagant and ridiculous. I recently got my brother a casual watch that he can wear on weekends with jeans and a t-shirt or even a nice button up. Watches are great for guys because they're one of the few pieces of jewelry they can get away with wearing.
Casual watches are great for women too, though not as popular. Most women's watches are slim dressy watches, which are great to wear with a more formal outfit, but aren't as good for your basic everyday look. And, while I love snap-on watches, they're not the best for the outfits that fall between super-casual and dressy. I've recently discovered boyfriend watches as the perfect alternative to fill the void between dressy and casual. They're chunkier than your standard department store women's dress watch, but more done-up than a standard casual watch. I bought one on sale recently and have gotten tons of compliments on it!

Dressy Watches

When you're really ready to pull out all the stops and add that extra wow factor to a snazzy look, watches are a great way to draw the right kind of attention. They're subtle, but still make a statement.

I saved up for a darling Michael Kors watch that surprisingly works well with just about any dressy outfit. It adds spunky flair to a business suit, blouse or pencil skirt.

Mens dress watches look great sticking out beneath the sleeve of a suit or dress shirt. I usually get one for my dad every Christmas, one of the best times of the year to snag a $500 watch for a fraction of the price. He wears it endlessly until he accidently leaves it at a restaurant or on a plane – just in time for the next Christmas, of course.

Leave the Watch Behind

However, there are instances where you might want to leave the watch behind. If you're wearing plenty of bracelets with a casual outfit, you can leave it out. If your brother or boyfriend only has one watch and it's a casual style, encourage him not to pair it with a suit – or even a shirt and tie. Furthermore, if you're unsure of whether or not your watch adds to or distracts from your outfit, it's better just to go without. And always, when in doubt, consult the resident fashionista in your life. They'd be happy to help your timepiece work to the benefit of yourself and your outfit.

Thanks so much Ashley!  Don't forget to enter into my giveaway Ocean Dreamers, which ends on Friday! See the post below to enter and good luck! ;)

Missoni for Target Madness Giveaway

Hi Ocean Dreamers, I don't know about you but its been so busy for me lately! I made it back home from Montana and will be in Utah for a few more weeks until I head back to California. That means in the course of the month of August I was in four states (counting my cabin state): California, Utah, Idaho, and Montana. Whew! I love traveling but I am a bit travel weary. It's been nice being back in Utah with my family where I've been able to focus on writing the last few days I've been home...I have a lot of that to do!

So based on my title, I confess that I did give into the Missoni for Target madness. I know you all probably already blogged about this so sorry if you are over the love of Missoni, lol. I'm not one of those people to give into a trend simple because it's "trendy," but with Missoni I LOVE the patterns and colors, so I was instantly obsessed.

Luckily Missoni hit Target when I was in Utah and not to knock Utah, but I'm not sure if everyone really knew it was going on, which was fantastic for people like me. Hence when I headed to Target yesterday (day after it was released,) there were still a good variety of merchandise left! I found some of my favorite finds in two different locations and had a long lunch break yesterday to say the least, ha ha. Look at the loot that I came home with!

Umm, I am loving all of the zig zags, he he! I especially like all of my favorite colors...I won't get tired of wearing my goodies this fall. Guess what the giveaway will consist of? Well, wait and see!
I was lucky to snag the last size small in this dress at the second Target location that I went to. CUTE!
Sigh. Loving my comfy shorts that I'm lounging in right now! ;) you are probably wondering when I'm getting to the giveaway, right?! Well, since I know many of us didn't get to snag some of these goodies like I did...I thought I would share my wealth of a few goodies with you!

Straight Talk Gives it to You Straight {sponsored post}

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I don't know about you, but I spend a lot of money on expenses that I could eliminate by simply searching for a better alternative. Everything always seems to add up, i.e. contacts, car insurance, health insurance, and everything else that comes up. My phone plan is one of my largest bills. Many phone plans doesn't offer you small plans, but Straight Talk is just that; they give it to you straight with a plan that costs only $45 dollars for the entire month. There are also no cancelation fees or set up fees. Yahoo!

I admit Ocean Dreamers, at first I was skeptical, but if I wasn't locked in for a 2 year plan with Verizon and paying over $100 a month, I think I would prefer to switch over to Straight Talk. I did a lot of research on YouTube and I've found really positive reviews about this plan that can be found at Walmart as well.

What I also love is that there are no contracts, no surprise bills and no credit checks. Everything you need Straight Talk provides and they only uses trusted phone manufacturers like LG, Motorola, Kyocera, Nokia and Samsung. Call a friend without the added expense and cut your monthly phone bill in half.

So yeah, basically Straight Talk has got me Hook, line and sinker. I also love that they work with Android, which basically means my cell phone bill would be cut in half. That’s $50 more dollars that I could use towards Juicy Couture. Hmm…now I'm thinking straight.

I'm still here & little joys from the week!

Hello Ocean Dreamers...

Just wanted to do a quick update to let you know that I'm still here, just really busy! Let me update you really quickly:

*Before my mom and I went off to Montana, which you'll be reading about next, my brother had his 21st Birthday. I can't believe he's that old already and this is what I got him since he's getting a degree to become a sport's trainer.
My brother LOVES maple bars, hence why we had his birthday cake made with them. Delish!

*On our way to Montana to visit with relatives and help my Grandma pack up her house (see next joy of the week,) I snapped a picture of all of the goodies I like to keep near me while my mom drove. Check out the heart rock I found for BK in between my feet!
* I've been in Montana for the past 10 days helping my Grandma get all packed up to move from her house to an apartment. It's been fun discovering treasures and old pictures, but there is so much to pack! Here's a picture of my mom when she was a little girl. Isn't she just the cutest?!
*Last weekend a bunch of my cousins and their children were here. I only get to see my cousins probably only once a year because we're scattered around in different states. There were 9 kids (second cousins) under the age of 12 running around all from 3 of my girl cousins. My aunt, mom, Grandma, and a few of the husbands were around as well. It was so enjoyable catching up with everyone and meeting my cousin's newest addition to her family, baby Grace who was sick last weekend but oh so sweet.
She's so cute even with a runny nose!
*The kids entertained us with their lemonade stand when we decided to have a garage sale for my Grandma because she has to down size a lot!
So it's official...I felt a bit left for not yet having kids cousin who is my same age already has 3! But I know there is timing for everything and right now I'd just be happy if I got engaged, lol!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I'll be around to visit your blogs soon when I'm not surrounded by boxes, lol. xoxo.

gold and turquoise fashion haven

While I'm in Montana enjoying time with my Grandma, mom, and relatives, my mind is still stuck on the upcoming fall time and I'm currently loving the colors gold and turquoise.
Pictures From: Tumblr/Pinterest

Are you as obsessed with turquoise and gold as I am?

What do you think of these colors for the fall time?

guest post by Megan - looking forward to fall

I'm currently in Montana visiting some family with my mom over Labor Day weekend so here's a guest post about the upcoming fall time by the lovely Megan. Enjoy!

Hi there friends! My name is Megan and I blog over at Mackey Madness!

I'm pumped to be over here today for Sierra. Her blog is a winner in my book. : )

I am a Southern girl, which I mostly love. I say mostly because there is a time when I wish that I didn't live down here sometimes: the summer! Y' has been at least 106 degrees down here for the past month. And there seems to be no sign of it easing up anytime soon. We are in a severe drought and the humidity is unreal.

I am NOT a summer girl. Give me cold weather any day. I was born in the winter and married in the fall...and I'd like that weather all year 'round. Unfortunately, my state doesn't cooperate with that.

I have been trying to think happy thoughts lately and I've been dreaming about fall/winter. Here's what I'm looking forward to:

1) Delicious hot chocolate.

2) Decorating...there's so many cute ideas!

3) Scarves. Ahhhh. A little piece of perfection.

4) Snow. Who am I kidding? We don't get snow, but I'm dreaming of chilly weather!

5) FOOTBALL!! (LSU Tigers all the way!)

6) The change of seasons and the beautiful colors that it brings.

7) Bonfires and roasting marshmallows.

8) Haunted houses! Y'all...I love them. #lovebeingterrified

9) All the food that is consumed during the fall and winter holidays.

10) And most importantly, our 1 year wedding anniversary!! Hooooooray!!

Are y'all summer people? Or looking forward to the weather change like me?

Thanks so much for having me, Sierra! It was fun!

Thanks so much Megan - I always love your posts and of course I love your blog! I can't wait for fall time to be here! Stay tuned for some new fall time inspired posts...
