how to get strong and healthy nails - guest post by Tara

Strong, healthy nails are beautiful. However, many of us struggle with brittle nails that break, chip, crack, or flake off. There are many products that promise to help you grow stronger, healthier nails. However, you don't need to spend money on expensive products. You can just practice a few natural remedies at home.

Here are a few ways you can get stronger and healthier nails:

File Nails Correctly
Filing your nails can keep them smooth and free of chips and cracks. It can help prevent breaks and strengthen your nails. However, you have to file them correctly. Don't run the file back and forth over your nails. Instead, file in one direction only.

Also be sure not to file nails after they have recently been wet, such as after a shower. Your nails will be more fragile and more prone to breaking.

Buff Your Nails

After you file your nails, buff the surface. Buffing them not only smoothes out any rough edges that can make your nails vulnerable to breaking, it also stimulates blood flow to the area to stimulate new, healthy growth.

Again, avoid buffing your nails after they have recently been wet. You'll risk doing more damage to your nails.

Dehydration is one of the biggest contributors to weak and fragile nails. Nails that are too dry are more likely to crack and break. Make sure you keep them properly moisturized to make them stronger.

Use a lotion, cuticle cream or petroleum jelly to moisturize them. Use it daily or after you notice your nails drying out. Rub it into the cuticles, as well as the nail bed.

Use Polish

Polish does more than make your nails look pretty; it helps to protect them. If you don't like to use color, just use a clear coat. Keep the polish fresh and change it at least once a week. Use an acetate-based remover instead of acetone so you don't strip your nails or over dry them.
Protect Your Nails

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Be proactive and protect your nails to prevent damage. Wear gloves to wash dishes or do household chores. Don't get your nails excessively dirty or expose them to harmful chemicals. Don't submerge them in water for extended periods of time.

The better you protect your nails, the stronger they will be and the fewer cracks and chips you will experience.
Simply taking these proactive measures to care for your nails can help you to make them stronger and healthier, without having to buy expensive serums or products.

sea foam and cupcakes (plus my weekend update & inspire me healthy link ups)

I made it to sunny CA and it is hot here too! For some reason it feels hotter here than Arizona, but that may be just because we don't have that much A/C in the apartment and the humidity makes it seem all the more hotter. However, despite the heat I'm having a blast! I just saw my amazing friend Selma a few days ago and BK and I are working away and heading out to get some delicious food at some of my favorite local places at least every couple of days.
{ ocean and cupcake pic taken at Oceanside }

With all of my traveling I wasn't able to update you on  my weekly Inspire Me: Health link up this past Thursday {I know posting a cupcake right above this and doing a health link up is an oxymoron ha ha}, but I'm still definitely making some improvements! I tried pilates twice this week (for the first time), and even though I haven't lost weight yet I feel like I am doing a better job at working out. Pilates was a lot of fun and a LOT of work, but I liked it. I'll be trying a few more cardio classes and also will be heading to the gym. I've also been drinking a lot of water, which has helped my skin a lot I've noticed. Water is always a great cleanser to get your skin in great condition.
This week I'm working on being consistent with working out but in all honestly I still need to be better with eating. I like to snack WAY too much!! Unfortunately I didn't lose a single pound this week but I know it's because I didn't try as hard as I know I can. That's what I will be working on for this week (eating right) and I will report back on Thursday. :) Oh and all of that food down there below needs to go buh-bye. Not healthy at all.

Head on over to THIS lovely lady's blog {All in My Twenties}to link up and find some inspiration as well. Plus, don't forget to encourage her because she's already lost 10 pounds!! Whohoo!!

So since my activities with Selma and BK counts as my *weekend*
since I didn't do much this past actual weekend,
I'm totally counting this as my weekend update link up post!
Lol. I know - two link ups in one post?!
Yep, I'm random that way.
So head on over to Join the Gossip's blog to link up tomorrow, Monday.
{ stolen from Selma's Instagram with permission
 of course - thanks lovely, he he! }

So for my *weekend*, Selma and I were able to go to Oceanside {see the cupcake and ocean picture up top} and we had a wonderful time. We also went to Downtown Disney and the Carlsbad Premium Outlets.  We were beat by the end of the day to say the least. The shops near the Oceanside beach were not fabulous, but we went there to check out the pier and walk by the water. It was beautiful. Here's a collage I made of the excursion {top two pics of Downtown Disney}:
I even made time to stop by my favorite boba place Cha for Tea along the way before I picked up Selma! It was a wonderful day. I was itching to get out for some time (even though I got out in AZ), but I needed a girlfriend to get out and have some fun with. Of course Selma and I always have a wonderful time!
Above you'll see an amazing cupcake that I got at the outlets, a salad from Ruby's, my tea from Cha for Tea, and some chips and salsa from one of my favorite Mexican restaurants that I went to with BK yesterday.

Selma and I went to the outlets, as I already mentioned, and it was so much fun! I loved the Carlsbad Premium Outlets (it also was my first time going there). I found a few CK tee-shirts for BK (that I already gave to him as an early birthday present lol), a CK (Calvin Klein) tee-shirt for myself, a Bebe tee for myself and a few items from Downtown Disney as well. I probably shopped a little too much but had so much fun.

The Disney Couture clothing is my absolutely favorite, hence why I fell in love with this tee shirt that can be found here:
I actually bought a very similar tee shirt to the tee that you see above.
My tee shirt that I bought at Downtown Disney
does not look like this top above but is very similar.
Disney Couture has amazing tee shirts if you want to check
out their website. I'm tempted by their fashion daily.

P.S. I really wanted this top below, but did not get it.
Since this post is getting long, I'll leave you with a picture I had fun adding some photo features to via a photo application on my phone. This is a Cinderella print that I saw in Disney Vault 28's display. It totally caught my eye so naturally I snapped a picture of it.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Next post?! A guest post followed by a GIVEAWAY!
{P.S. sorry for my funky spacing. I tried centering and then changed
my mind which turned into a sporadically spaced post.}

office space wants

Hi Ocean Dreamers,

I hope you are having a good start to your week!
I'm getting ready to head to CA for about a week and a half and I'm so excited!

Whenever I head back to CA I start dreaming about having a home
of my own when I'm finally able to move back there full time,
instead of being a traveling gypsy. {Which I love by the way!}

When BK and I do have a home, I would love to have a work space
that I can decorate to my heart's content. I would love to utilize wall decals,
a pretty weight holder, pictures of my favorite fashion illustrations, and more!
Not to mention I am obsessed with vintage books, brick walls (or floors),
and vintage chairs with colored fabric. I could go on and on!
Another element I would love to incorporate would be a logo fountain with
my business name on it: Paige One. Logo fountains
are awesome because you can personalize them with
your own logo and have a tranquil space! I'm getting excited
to decorate already! :)

Since you all know about my obsession with Pinterest, I thought I would
share some picture of office spaces that really get me inspired.
I hope they inspire you too.
P.S. click on the photos and they will take you to the source.

I am in love with this interior because of the turquoise cushions on the
chair and the pink decal on the wall! It is very clean and tidy and the I
also love the flowers. What a lovely office space!
There are so many things in this office that I love that I can't even tell
you everything! For starters I love the pastel coloring, the beautiful desk
design, and the fact that this room can be used as an office space
and a craft room simultaneously. Plus - don't even get me started
on the maiden form behind the desk and the vintage typewriter! {Swoon}
I'm loving this space because it's so lush and calming looking. The green
and pink totally make the room come together and all of the plants
are perfectly placed, don't you think?
Now this space isn't my cup of tea, but isn't it so super cool?!
I love the use of space in this interior and the funky drapes paired
with the brick wall backdrop is just amazing. Plus - can we just
take a minute and admire the chairs?!
Last but not least, this pink office space is definitely office worthy! I love how
the shades of purple and pink come together so perfectly and
the clear glass back on the chair?! So amazing. I think
I would feel extremely happy working in a space like this,
that's for sure.

So what do you think of these office spaces?
If you work at home, would you want an office space like any of these?
Share in my office joy and dream with me!
One day I'll be able to reveal to you my dream office space,
thanks to these inspiring office space wants.

P.S. Come back soon for a 100 "likes" Paige One

only in Arizona...

{picture in AZ that I took in May}

Only in Arizona do you go on a walk and come home...completely drenched with sweat.

Only in Arizona do you get dressed knowing that your clothing will be wet after you come home.

Only in Arizona do you have to apply SPF on your face...otherwise you'll get burned or go home with some extra freckles.

Only in Arizona do you dread going on a walk outside because it will be at least 110 degrees depending on what time of day you go.

Only in Arizona will a warning show up on your smart phone {too smart if you ask me}, telling you to seek shelter because there will be a dust storm soon.

Only in Arizona do you leave the car running with the A/C on while you rent at a movie at Redbox which is right near your car because you want the car to stay cool.

Only in Arizona you're not allowed to take your dog for a walk in the afternoon and in the neighborhood because the asphalt will burn his poor feet. You only have the option of going to the park instead unless you get up at 7AM every morning!

Only in Arizona do you bring a water bottle and cup to pour water into. That way your dog can drink out of  the cup because he's dehydrated...only after a half an hour walk at the park in the afternoon.

Only in Arizona is the pool too hot to go swimming in!

Only in Arizona do you have to wear sunscreen wherever you go otherwise you better expect a bad sunburn. Oh and this includes laying out at the pool. Duh.

Only in Arizona are you pooped for the rest of the day from a single half an hour walk in 110 degree weather in the morning.

Only in Arizona do you become a couch potato because it's just way to hot to go outside. Period.

Only in Arizona do you forget to pack deodorant for your trip {I did this}, and then have to stink for an entire day until you go to Target and get this most valuable accessory. ;)

Only in Arizona do you wish you were freezing cold when you're standing outside because you feel like you're going to be hot soup any second.

Only in Arizona do you get attacked by flies while you're eating in a restaurant with open seating because they're just as hungry and tired of the heat as you are.

Only in Arizona will you accidentally forget your sunglasses at home {yep, I did this too} and you have to buy a $16 pair at Target. Oh, and a case as well because you manage to forget or misplace your sunglasses every. single. place. you go to.

Only in Arizona do you continuously rent Redbox movies because you'd rather be inside than getting your exercise and socializing outdoors.

Only in Arizona do you find yourself preferring to workout with Jillian Michaels as opposed to going to the gym. Oh wait - does standing outside in the 110 degrees weather count as a workout?!

Only in Arizona...I could go on and on!

I'm loving AZ, but it is SO SO hot!! I hope you enjoyed catching up on my descriptions of this killer heat, even though I'm loving my aunt and uncle's sweet Maltese pup that I'm dog sitting!

Inspire Me: Healthy (no more excuses!!)

Thanks to two fabulous bloggers, aka Kristin and Raven I am finally encouraged and am determined to lose the weight that I've put on over the last couple of years. I'm done with the excuses and I'm done with not liking how I feel. Yes, some people may be saying, you look great - you don't need to lose weight! Umm, thanks for the compliment but I used to be 30 pounds lighter and I need to get healthier. Stat.
A Mommas Desires And Pacifiers
I few years ago after my health scare I weighed at about 125. If you do the math and 30 pounds later you'll know exactly what I weigh now. No, I'm not extremely overweight, but I am overweight for my height (in my opinion), which is about 5'5". I feel better and healthier at 125 as opposed to where I am now.

How is Inspire Me: Healthy going to help me lose the weight? My goal is to be completely transparent with you so that you can help me stay accountable. No, this isn't going to be a *MUST GET SKINNY* blog every single week. It's going to be *MUST GET HEALTHY* every single week because it is what my body deserves. It is what I deserve!!
I admit I've let myself go. I've given myself excuse after excuse. If only you could hear my thoughts! Here's a glimpse of what I "feed" my brain:

  • "I'll start tomorrow"
  • "It's just one package of chocolate covered gummy bears. I'll only gain one pound, which isn't bad, right?"
  • "I want chocolate. I deserve chocolate!"
  • "Who cares?! I work at home and not that many people see me!"
  • "BK will still love me." {which is true but no excuse}
  • "I'll lose the weight in one week. Promise."
  • "Tomorrow I'll go to the gym."
  • "I have this HUGE writer's deadline and I have to stay up late. This food will help me get through it!"
  • "This movie will be so much better while eating tasty food. Good food + good movie = ultimate relaxation!"
The lies I feed myself go on and on. This is just a glimpse of what you might hear in my mind. Unfortunately losing weight has never been my strong suit. I've only lost weight through health issues, breakups, and stressful times. I've never lost weight the healthy way. So this is a new learning experience for me, to say the least.

No, I've never used diet pills and I've never used prescription pills. Also, you probably should know that I have had some issues against me, such as an under-active thyroid, lactose intolerance, and other medicine that I've been on that makes me gain weight. However, I'm at a place where I'm not taking very much medicine and I've gotten my under-active thyroid under control (hopefully) so this should not hinder my losing weight results.

What are some motivating forces for me to lose the weight?

  • I want to get married before I'm 30. I'm going to be 28 soon (next month!) and that means I have about a year to lose the weight! P.S., in case you were curious, BK said he would marry me before I turn 30. No pressure BK!
  • Some of my relatives suffer from diabetes and back issues. I also have issues with the tendon in my leg. Losing the weight will keep me healthy and will also help prevent issues like this from forming down the road.
  • I want to feel better about myself physically, emotionally, and I want to get fit!
  • Now is the time because I don't want to have kids (or get married) without being at a healthy weight!
My Losing Weight Goals:
  • Work out 5-6 times a week 30-45 minutes a day (I've been really good about this, it's the diet that I struggle with).
  • Cut back on snacking (HUGE issue for me that I must get under control)
  • Eat healthier foods (I drink a lot of smoothies and chicken but I need more veggies and water!!)
  • Work on self control and self discipline (this is what it comes down to!!)
  • Lose 30 pounds in 8 months. That's 1 pound per week, which is a healthy way to lose weight.
Goal Weight: 125 - 130
Is that transparent enough? Don't judge! ;)

So this week I'm going to eat less junk food, go swimming and do my Jillian Michaels workout videos for my daily fitness, and eat healthier. Wish me luck! My leg has been bugging me again so hopefully that won't hinder my workouts. I'm waiting to hear from a doctor on that by the way. Either way, I can still work on my diet. With your help and teaching myself self discipline, I think I can do it. Matter of fact, I KNOW I can do it!
Want to join me?? Meet me here once a week and read up on how I'm doing, good or bad. Also - check in with the ladies who started this fabulous Inspire Me: Healthy link up.

Barcelona night life - guest post by Elena

I went to Barcelona and Madrid, Spain when I was 16. I can't believe it's almost been 12 years! What I remember was a lot of beautiful art, culture, and vibrant colors. However, I was too young to experience the night life. After reading this guest post, however, I'd love to experience the night life!

Enjoy this guest post by Elena and I'm sure you'll feel like traveling to Barcelona for the first time, or in my case the second time! I would love to create new memories there!

For young tourists visiting Barcelona, there are plenty of venues to visit to experience Barcelona’s night life.  Barcelona is a fast moving and vibrant city in Spain, and the city doesn’t sleep just because the sun goes down.  You will find many restaurants, bars and clubs where you can experience the great party atmosphere of Barcelona.  Many places are open all night, and you will need to pace yourself to keep up with the fiestas of Barcelona before going back to your holiday apartments Barcelona.
Las Rambias is a neighborhood within Barcelona.  It is well known for its popularity and is a hub for shoppers in the day times with many high street stores, but at night, the area becomes filled with partygoers and fun.  Las Rambias is often the place of trade for the street entertainers, so just walking through the neighborhood at the start of your night will be an entertaining experience. It looks very much like the old town in the capital of Spain and you will easily find where to stay in Madrid. You can visit one of the many beautiful and tempting restaurants on the boulevard, and fill your stomach before moving on to more adventurous things.  Of course, the food of choice in Spain is tapas, and if you are in a group you will enjoy the novelty of having Mediterranean cooking served in sharing platters for the whole party.

After you have eaten, you can continue onto the bars in the vicinity of the neighborhood and the high end cocktail bars include the Boadas bar, Kiosk La Cazalla and the Sports Bar Rambles which all give you a professional, modern and classy start to your evening.  Las Rambles has one or two clubs too, including the Boulevard Club, however this location is usually where you would visit as gentle a start to a night of hard partying, or a location where you can relax for a few drinks with friends.  If you want to party through the night like the locals do, then you should move on from Las Rambles.
If you crave the British pubs, then there are several places where you can experience Irish and British style nightlife.  One such place is Flaherty’s.  For up market places where you can meet singles, there are many side streets in the gothic quarter of Barcelona where you will find such venues as La Divina and Stoke Bar.  You can then move on to the nightclubs that the tourists usually frequent.  In the gothic quarter, you will find Jamboree and Sidecar, which are the cheaper clubs where tourists will visit to drink and have a great time.

If you have a little more cash in your pocket, then you could visit El Born.  Be prepared for the locals here, and possibly a language barrier, as this is where the tourists usually don’t do.  Here, you will find more traditional bars to Spain as well as some great clubs such as Cat bar and the Coppelia club.
Wherever you visit for your night out in Barcelona, you will have plenty of fun.  Just don’t forget to set your hotel’s “do not disturb” sign for the morning!

Thanks Elena!

7 of the hottest beach styles this summer - guest post by Amy

Hi Ocean Dreamers!

Though I'm not off to the beach {I definitely wish I was}, I'm traveling again! So while I'm getting ready for yet another trip to both my sunny CA and very hot AZ, enjoy a guest post about ocean dreams {and amazing swimwear}, from Amy!

Written by Amy Carson. Amy is a swimwear enthusiast and a writer for Hapari Swimwear - Modest, Attractive Swimwear.

Summer is already in full swing, and with record temperatures across the country, beaches have been packed. Some beach goers are nailing it when it comes to the latest styles and fashions, and others are not. If you really want to make heads turn during your next trip to the beach this summer, I’d recommend taking advantage of these hot summer styles.
Oversized sunglasses.  Aviators are still in style this season, but so are oversized cat eyes. Sunglasses should help you make a statement and put a little attitude into your beach wear. Look for a pair with neon frames or rose-colored lenses. They’re as funky as they are functional.

The perfect swimsuit.  Finding the right swimsuit to fit your body and your personality can be a challenge. The good news is that this year there are plenty of incredible options for you to choose from—fringe, ruffles, crochet, bold patterns, and bright colors are all in style, as are classic Hollywood silhouettes. Look for suits with interesting details that will draw attention to your good areas and camouflage any problems that you may worry about. Personally, I think Hapari’s swimwear does this particularly well—my favorite is the cinch tankini with ruffles. So cute!
Pretty cover-up.  This season, cover-ups are short, loose, and light. Go for a breezy, white or bright-colored cover-up that you can pair with shorts or a loose skirt when needed. I also like sarong wraps for their versatility. You can throw one on for some extra coverage when strolling along the beach and then be perfectly prepared to go out to lunch.
Killer sandals.  Cute flip flops are classic, but if you’re really looking for footwear to make you stand out this summer, opt for something with a bit more structure. Try bejeweled gladiator sandals or metallic thong sandals. These have the advantage of staying on your feet a little better than basic flip-flops, and they don’t fling as much sand.

Statement jewelry. I love accessorizing my beach look with jewelry. It adds an air of puttogetheredness that’s hard to achieve any other way. Beach jewelry should be simple and earth-toned.  I like wearing wooden statement necklaces, turquoise rings, copper bracelets, or casual brass ear hoops. Choose one piece that works with your outfit every day you’re at the beach for a look that will have everyone talking about your great style.
Summer-inspired nail art.  The nail art trend is still going strong, and no season does it better than summer. Try putting some scrumptious strawberries on your toe nails for a fun nod to seasonal juiciness, or use cool blue design to remind you of the waves. If you’re not in to extreme nail decoration, that’s okay. Play around with summer colors, like neon or metallic. Have fun experimenting with different combinations and looks until you find something that works for you.

Beach bag and essentials.  Ah, what day at the beach is complete without a big, beautiful beach bag to pull the entire thing together? Look for a bag that’s large enough to carry all your essentials—sunscreen, tanning lotion, lip balm, reading material, towels, etc. You don’t even have to try to match your cover-up or your sandals—just get something fun that works for you.
There you have it, my seven hottest beach styles for this summer.

What are your favorite summertime styles?

Thanks so much for the guest post Amy!

fall time footwear with Famous Footwear!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Famous Footwear for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Now that fall time is on its way {still so hard to believe even though I love fall time dearly!}, it's time to ditch the flip flops {unless you're a sunny CA girl like myself} and find footwear that's durable and warm enough for the fall and winter time. For some of us fall time also means that the school season is starting up again as well. However, I'm no longer in school but my boyfriend is headed back to get yet another degree so he'll need some sturdy shoes to get him to class on time! ;)

One of my favorite sites to find outstanding shoes is Famous Footwear. They have SO many amazing styles to choose from and their site is so versatile and very easy to shop on as well!

Lately I'm obsessing over cowgirl boots {you'll see why in my next post}, so I was estatic to find out that Famous Footwear offers some great cowgirl boots as well. Call me crazy but if I could go back in time I would totally wear these beauties below on my way to class! Would you? ;)

So now that you know what kind of shoes I would wear to school - what footwear would YOU wear to school? With the help of BOGO {buy one, get one half off}, AND 15% off {unless you are a Rewards Member you get 20% off}, you can get one, two, or more shoes and be all set for the fall time to arrive.

BOGO + 15% off Famous Footwear Coupon

I would definitely encourage you to use this coupon and get some shoes before fall time and plus you'll make your school shoe shopping complete, before school even begins! With coupons shopping is a lot easier because you are saving money, which is a no brainer in my opinion. ;)

So what are you waiting for?! Use this coupon to buy one shoe and get one half off and while you're at it sign up for their free Rewards Program too because you will earn 1 point for every $1 you spend in the store or online and if you think about it all of these points combined will save you $100 or more a year in certificates {depending on how much you shop}! Plus, sign up now and receive other discounts and perks along the way. ;) I love reward programs, don't you? Oh and I totally want these shoes below! They look SO comfy and I want to exercise in style right now!

Anastasia Seen and Be Seen Makeup Kit Review

I'm fashionably late in posting this review, but I am loving my Anastasia Seen & Be Seen makeup! I was sent this delightful makeup kit by Anastasia and not only did I receive some amazing lip gloss, eyebrow gel, and eye shadow, I received a fun little photo accessory too. ;)

My fun photo wheel contains images from lovely stars and Anastasia said it best in their description: “Who’s the Boldest of Them All” image featuring bold brow beauties Audrey Hepburn and Lily Collins from the new movie Mirror Mirror and some high resolution digital files of the picture wheel images that come with the 3D Viewmaster. {I have not seen this movie yet but now that it is out I will be watching it asap!} Have you seen it?
I love Anastasia's products because they are not only cruelty free, but the glosses are amazing! I'm nearly done with one of my glosses already and that's because I use it more than I use my lipstick. It glides on smoothly and makes my lips look fresh and pretty during the summer time. Plus, it hydrates and keeps my lips full when the dry weather here in Utah threatens to dry my lips out.
The kit I received to review came with the following:
  • Hydrafull Gloss in Heiress and Plastic
  • Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel
  • Illumin8 Eye Shadow Duo in On Set
Because the Seen and Be Seen kit comes with pink glosses, I decided to pair my makeup with a tropical dress. ;) Hence the tropical dress in my photo collage above. If you look closely at the picture you'll see that my lip gloss definitely matches my shirt and the pink tones in my dress. Yep, I definitely like to stay color coordinated all the way, even when it comes to matching the colors my my dress ha ha. ;) Oh, which reminds me... Anastasia created this fun collage of some of their products (including the hydrafull gloss which is in the kit and the lash genius which I have also reviewed before), and I love how the makeup compliments the celebs and their outfits. I had to share this one in particular! Gotta love Blake and Zooey! ;)

P.S. The lip glosses are water proof! Perfect for your pool time relaxing or at least that's what I'll be doing soon in Arizona. ;)

I also love my eye shadow from Anastasia as well. It comes with the perfect shimmery color of beige and also contains another color which is more of a gold bronze color that's perfect to use as we're heading into fall time. It also works well to wear on your eyelids during the summer time too! I love putting on my eye shadow primer followed by their eye shadow and it definitely makes me feel pretty. Plus, it's a nice product that definitely highlights your eyes and compliments the rest of the makeup that's on your face too.
The Seen and Be Seen kit is now for purchase on their website!
You can find it here
