Take 5! (Bras that is…) - guest post by Liz

I'm always looking for a great bra, and this post seriously offers ALL of the bra tips I would ever need! Enjoy and have a lovely day Ocean Dreamers!

P.S. I'll be back in a flash with a post about my hair (and why it was so long a few posts ago!) :)

if you haven't already!

*****************************
Take 5! (Bras that is…)

Personally, thanks to being *ahem* well-endowed, I am always thinking about bras. Before I was properly measured I was wearing a 38/40DDD… well, turns out I’m actually a 38GG/H! While finding the proper bra size was an enormous step in the right direction (clothes look & fit better, my posture is better, shoulder/back/sides/neck don’t hurt as much) I knew that I was going to have to drop some cash on building a better bra wardrobe. Worried that I was going to go bankrupt buying bras I tried to hammer it down to the exact 5 bra styles I thought would benefit me most and be the most versatile.
   Wacoal: Basic Beauty Underwire Bra
First up, a smoothing t-shirt bra. Completely versatile, a t-shirt bra can be worn under tissue-thin cotton t-shirts (without worry of show-through), as well as under tank tops, sweaters, button-downs, etc. The smooth, molded cups guarantee that you won’t have any extra lumps and bumps under your shirts, giving you a streamlined silhouette. I would encourage you to purchase one in a “nude” shade so it is virtually invisible under white tops. While “nude” is subjective, try to find one that’s as close as possible to your skin tone. But believe me, a white bra under a white top will show!
   Fantasie: Smoothing Strapless Bra
Next, you’ve got to get your hands on a supportive strapless bra. Nothing ruins an outfit more than chunky bra straps sticking out of a strapless top or dress! A strapless bra is exactly what you need for summer’s skimpiest styles; whether you’re wearing a spaghetti-strapped tank top, an edgy asymmetrical one-shouldered top, or a completely strap-free top, you’re going to need a perfect strapless bra!
   Glamorise: Firm Control Adjustable Motion Wire-Free Sports Bra
While summer is the perfect time to get in shape, you shouldn’t even think of stepping into a gym without wearing a sports bra! Breasts can bounce up to 5.5 inches (in all directions) when you’re working out, which will increase the chance of sagging, pain and overall discomfort. But when you’ve got the right sports bra on, bust bouncing is a thing of the past!
   Chantelle: Rive Gauche 3-Part Cup Underwire Bra
Now, these last two put the fun in functional. If you’ve got a little extra money in your bra budget, pick up a sexy little number & a t back bra. It’s important to have a sexy bra in your lingerie drawer, whether you want to wear it on date night, girl’s night out, or as a boost of confidence to have on under your clothes. Knowing that you have on a racy lace or wild animal print bra will bring out your inner sex kitten!
 Body by Wacoal T-Back Underwire Bra
A t-back bra is a fantastic new style that sometimes gets looked over. If you’re wearing a tank top, racerback top, or any type of sporty style, the t-back (also sometimes known as a racerback) bra is your new best friend. If you prefer the support of straps & don’t want to go strapless (although if you’re wearing the right size bra all the support should be coming from the band, not the straps), then a t-back bra is right for you!

If you don’t know where to begin, I always start (and end) my lingerie search with Bare NecessitiesBarePlus (their plus-size website). Being that I can fit into products on both sites I’m always looking through both to find the exact style I want! Take my bra advice & bra shopping will be a breeze! (Just make sure you go get properly measured first!)

simple, cruelty-free skin care tips for glowing skin - guest post by Rachel

Hi Ocean Dreamers,

While I'm at our family cabin enjoying the river and working away, please enjoy this amazing guest post by Rachel! She has an amazing homemade skin care routine that I'm dying to dry and want to know what is even more amazing?! It's cruelty free (the products are not tested on animals). Read the post below to get the scoop on her skin care tips!

Thanks so much Rachel!

My Homemade Skin Care Routine

Simple, cruelty-free skin care tips for glowing skin

Images of how cosmetics are tested on animals led me to research and then adopt a cruelty-free lifestyle about 5-years ago. I couldn’t deal with the fact that innocent animals were dying so that I could have smoother skin and prevent wrinkles. It seemed so selfish.

From that day 5-years ago to today, I have never purchased any products, or products containing ingredients, that have been tested on animals. I also choose to boycott the products made by any companies that conduct animal testing. Believe it or not, there are a ton of cruelty-free products available and I make use of them for my skin care and make up needs regularly.

However, nothing is better than a homemade skin care treatment—as long as it’s animal-friendly of course! So I make a point of following my own, self-tested, skin care regime! The following beauty care regime isn’t only fast, convenient and 100% natural—it’s also completely cruelty-free  and chemical-free, as well as very cost-effective.

As a result of following this skin care routine for the past year, my skin is clearer (yes, I still suffered from acne into my 20s), younger looking and I find I don’t need to wear foundation or cover up quite as much (I reserve cruelty free foundation for special occasions). I had my 10-year high school reunion in May and even though all the girls in their long homecoming dresses were gorgeous—it’s my glowing skin that got all the praise from my old class mates.

The following details my tried and tested, homemade skin care routine…

Each morning

In the mornings, I opt for gentle cleansing due to the fact that my face is clean from the night before and I don’t wear make-up very often anyway. My morning routine includes the following steps and products:

1. Cleanse face and neck
  • Mix 3 drops of the essential oil of your choice in a clear glass bowl—typically lavender, rose, or orange—for their soothing, invigorating, and high vitamin C content
  • Fill the rest of the bowl with hot water (it should steam)
  • Immerse a face cloth completely in the water then squeeze out the excess water
  • Lay the cloth completely over your face and neck like a hot compress and let the steam open your pores, soften your skin, and infuse your skin with nutrients from the essential oils
  • Immerse the cloth and repeat the compress one more time
  • Then rub the cloth across your face and neck as a gentle exfoliant to rid any dry skin or dir
2. Moisturize

As a natural, cruelty-free moisturizer with a ton of vitamins, I opt for virgin coconut oil, like this:
  • Drip 4 drops of coconut oil in the palm of your hand
  • Add 1 drop of the same essential oil you used above
  • Rub hands together to mix the ingredients and smooth the oil over your face and neck
Each evening before bed

During the evenings the goal is to rid any dirt of make-up that’s been sitting all day from your face before you go to sleep. To do this, I use olive oil (but you can use just about any oil of your choice) because it easily dissolves make-up and it’s gentle on the skin (the majority of commercial make-up removers are oil-based anyhow).

1. Cleanse

  • Dip a cotton pad in a teaspoon of olive oil
  • Smooth the pad over your face and neck to banish make up and dirt
  • You may need more than one pad if you tend to wear a lot of eye shadow, mascara and foundation
  • Wipe excess oil from your face using a clean face cloth rinsed in warm water

2. Tone

I prefer natural toners like lavender and rose. To prepare my natural toner, I combine the following in a small squirt bottle:
  • 90 milliliters of water
  • 1 drop essential oil—lavender or rose
  • Then I shake the bottle, squirt some toner on a cotton pad, and smooth over my face and neck
3. Moisturize

The final phase of my evening skin routine is moisturizing, which is vital to my soft, smooth, youthful glow. For moisturizing, I use the same coconut oil preparation as I did in the morning.

in black and white - guest post by Liberty

1 – Diane Von Furstenberg | Emily Leather Jacket
2 – Alexander McQueen | Peplum Detail Blouse
3 – Jerome Dreyfuss | Raoul Bag
4 – Balenciaga | Siv To Pelle Ankleboots
5 – Diane Von Furstenberg | Britt Leather Skirt
6 – Diane Von Furstenberg | Alexandra Sunglasses

Classic monochrome has never looked so cool. Think elegant, geometric prints, chic accessories, tough leather and lashings of keep-forever black, of course.

I’ve opted to toughen up a romantic white blouse with lots of leather – the Diane Von Furstenberg skirt adds some on-trend gothic glamour to an ensemble that might otherwise look boring, and the studs on the jacket lend a bit of a biker feel to its lady-like shape. Teaming the outfit with sleek, elegant ankle-boots, big sunglasses, and a practical day bag finishes the look off perfectly – so you’re 100% ready to work the black and white trend!

Thanks Liberty for the fantastic fashion board and guest post!

blowing in the wind - hemline strappy dress

The other day when I asked my mom to take pictures of me in a new dress that I received from OASAP, we had no idea that a storm would sneak up on us. But what seemed annoying at first actually turned out fun and I love how the pictures turned out because it felt magical having my hair and dress blowing in the wind. I especially loved how windy it was because it went with the theme of my dress because it is very feminine, girly, and ruffly. All of theses elements are what I love in a dress by the way. Plus, we finished taking pictures just when it started to pour rain outside. Good timing, huh?!

I would like to disclose that I received this dress from OASAP to review. To visit OASAP's site go right here! ;) This particular dress is sold out, but they have many other pieces of clothing to check out!

Wondering why my hair looks longer and fuller?
Well, I have a little surprise that I'll be revealing
on the next post, so stay tuned. ;)

Have a great Sunday ocean dreamers and remember
to embrace the wind when it comes! ;)

Embrace Being You - The Revlon Expression Experiment

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Revlon for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love how makeup inspires us to show off who we are not only on the outside, but on the inside as well. Because you see - putting on our makeup allows us to express ourselves and feel confident while doing it. That's why I'm excited to talk to you about Revlon's Expression Experiment. The Revlon Expression Experiment encourages us fashionistas to be ourselves and wear red lipstick too! ;)

exp_exp_logo.jpg (2 documents, 2 total pages)

I would like to disclose that I received the Revlon Expression Experiment kit that came with various makeup, from makeup primer to eye shadow! It all is fabulous makeup and definitely was a fun process for me to apply the makeup and then go out and show off my new look! My favorite item in this fabulous kit is the eye shadow, because it came with tropical colors such as green and blue and all of the eye shadow shades are gorgeous! Here's a picture of my eye to show you how the eye shadow looks:

The turquoise and green eye shadow is stunning. It smoothly glided undo my eyelids and it definitely made me feel beautiful. Plus, I think it will go perfectly with a number of outfits like my new brightly colored romper and tropically themed dresses!

Revlon_logo_Black_largerR[1].jpg (2 documents, 2 total pages)

Another favorite makeup accessory that I received was the red lipstick and red lipgloss, and I love it! I actually had been wanting red lipstick so I was excited to open up the box and discover red lipstick! It smoothly went on to my lips and stayed on for a very long time as well! Let me show you how it looks:

Since this is the expression experiment, how does red lipstick and the other fabulous makeup make me feel?

Well, it makes me feel confident, carefree, and radiant! I can picture wearing my red lipstick, primer, eye shadow, and nail polish while going out on a date with my BK or  heading out to a fun summer concert. Also, red lipstick is simply magical and paired with tropical eye shadow and all of the other awesome elements {such as the nail polish,} I get excited just thinking about it the outfit I would wear for the next time.

So this summer it's time to embrace being you, makeup and all! I look forward to wearing bright and fabulous makeup that's durable, trendy, and bold. Now it's time to grab BK and go out on a hot date! ;)

a girl with many outfits - from hot pink to tropical silhouettes

Hi Ocean Dreamers!

So...I've been having a little bit too much fun on my Android with picture apps lately! So I put together some collages of some of the outfits that I have worn during the past couple of months. If you follow me on Instagram you might have already seen some of these pictures. ;) These photo apps are awesome because I don't have to spend an hour on Photoshop to create a collage liek this, but I still need to use Photoshop so I won't forget how to use it, lol!

But anyway, I definitely love embracing colorful outfits during the summer months so you'll see a lot of tropical dresses and bright silhouettes below. I'll also tell you where I got each article of clothing and the accessories too in case you want to embrace some color and fashion with me. ;)

What outfit colors have you been embracing during the summer?
Hot Pink Dress: Aeropostale
Tropical Maxi Dress with Purple and Orange: Aeropostale
(didn't see the dresses on Aeropostale, sorry)
Beige Tunic with Pattern {bottom left corner}: Free People
(only available in pink on website)
Yellow and Blue Tie Dyed Tunic {bottom right corner}: B SPLIT {Banana Split}
Tropical Blue Ruffle Dress {top right and left}: Hollister
(Sorry, didn't see this Hollister dress on the website either.)
"S" Monogram Necklace: Ritzy Misfit
Suede Sparkle Pumps: Poetic Licence
(exact pump is not on the website but similar shoes can be found!)
Shop Window(s): Anthropologie

My Hair Curls: Dry Bar in Arizona {yep purchased a hairstyle, lol!}
{ By the way, a dry bar, which is just for hair styles only, is a new and AWESOME trend. Have you heard of it?? My aunt treated me last time I was in AZ and I loved it and the fact that I didn't have to style my hair for 3 days. Going back there when I'm in AZ next because I love the concept and the pampering!! }

Twisted Metal Bracelet {bottom left hand corner}: Twisted Silver
(I didn't see my exact bracelet on the website but the link above is similar. They also have many other amazing jewelry items. I am in love with this brand! ;)

So there you have it, some of my latest outfits and a little bit of accessories that I love too!

I'll be back with another post on my trip to the Getty Villa with BK in Malibu and a giveaway too - hooray!

Hope you all are having a lovely week.

bareMinerals review - my new favorite foundation!

Happy Sunday!

I hope you all are having a lovely weekend. Right now I'm sitting here with my mom in our living room watching last week's episode of The Bachelorette, for the second time for me and the first time for her! I'm so excited to see who she chooses {team Jef Holm!} and I have to say that this has been my favorite season thus far. Emily is stunning on the inside and the out and she truly deserves to find her prince. I only hope she does live happily ever after the show is over and I'm sure she will!!

{via my Instagram}

But anyway...this post is all about makeup, not Emily. I do have to say I would love to know what Emily uses for her makeup though because she always looks radiant!

Recently when I was in CA I ran out of my main foundation {I was using Tarte which is still awesome by the way}, so I decided to use Bare Escentuals because it was at a local beauty store nearby BK's apartment. At first I was skeptical. I had heard of bareMinerals but never wanted to try it because of the lose powder {I thought it would be super messy and hard to apply}! So before I took the step and bought my Bare Escentuals bareMinerals, I had the sales clerk gal give me a quick run though on how to apply it onto my face correctly.

{via Amazon}

She encouraged me to buy the Bare Escentuals Full Coverage Kabukie brush with my foundation {which I'm so glad I did}, because it is made with a certain type of bristles that are made to smooth out the minerals on your skin. At first glance the foundation looks like it won't last that long, but let me tell you that a little bit goes a long way! She showed me how to gently use the brush to basically gather up the minerals and then swirl the brush with the minerals around on your face so that it gets eventually placed on your skin. I went home and practiced and I have to admit that it was kind of addicting! ;)
I also discovered Bare Escentuals is not only easy to apply, but it feels great on my skin! It also is not messy as long as you use a little bit at a time. At first when I applied it I thought it was making my face too shiny, but then I compared pictures so I could see how I looked in the past {yes I took a few new picture or two lol}, and found out that it makes my skin look even better than before! It gives you a glow with its natural minerals and makes you feel like you are treating your skin well too. Plus, I love that it is a "mineral based foundation that gives flawless coverage." Sounds like an advertising gimmick but it is definitely true!
Let me also say that I have very sensitive skin. My skin is oily and breaks out easily. Plus, I have allergies and finding makeup that works well for my skin has always been difficult for me. So - this is why I was also skeptical trying bareMinerals because I hadn't heard that much about it. But, when I decided to try it at the beauty store I was reassured that this makeup would not break out my skin and the good news is that it definitely did not.

So if you are looking for a natural makeup that won't break out your skin and that is very natural too {it is free of preservatives, talc, oil, waxes, fragrances, and other chemicals}, I would definitely encourage you to try Bare Escentuals bareMinerals. Not to mention it is cruelty-free which I support!
If you want to find it at a great price by the way, head on over to Amazon {link HERE} - it's only $16.99 and even though it seems like there's hardly anything there, it lasts for a long time {I've been using my first container of foundation for 2 weeks + and it's still 2/3 full or so}.

I love my bareMinerals and just had to review it so you could hear all about it in case you are looking for a new foundation to try! Just remember, a little bit goes a long way and that it is important to swirl your brush into the makeup first prior to brushing it onto your skin. Next up I'd love to try some of their other products, such as their Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Prime Time!

You'll have to let me know what you think if
you use this fab makeup or plan on trying it!

a frother machine is not only for lattes! - guest post by Halle

Hello Lovelies,

So I know I said that I would be taking a break from accepting guest posts for a while, but my lovely friend Halle has been planning on submitting a guest post for a while and I couldn't be happier to have here on my blog today! ;) I personally don't drink coffee and I'm lactose intolerant (lol), but after reading her post that's all about a delicious frother, I wish I drank coffee and I suppose I could use soy milk as a substitute! ;) Plus, she mentioned that you could make other drinks besides a latte, etc., so I must look into this!

Enjoy Halle's guest post about her current frother review aka delicious drink obsession - sounds delish! ;)

Thanks Halle for your guest post!

**********************
Hello everyone! I'm Halle, and I write the Classic Glam Blog.

I'm so excited to be guest posting here at Ocean Dreams for today!

I have been wanting one of these for a long time. These little machines can really transform a drink and add that foam that we all love so much. A frother can make your at-home Starbucks even more authentic. I recently purchased this one & I absolutely love it; especially how budget friendly it is.

{via}
A common misconception is that these are used solely used for cappuccinos/lattes. However, these can be used for anything (usually that includes some form of milk) to froth it up! You can always add some ice to make it more of a summer drink. Below is a recipe I got from Capresso for a hazelnut drink.

1 cup whole milk
2 Tbs. Nutella
&;
Froth together

How easy is that? I made it the other day and it was really good :) I added some ice because it was a perfect 80ƒ day!

baby you're a firework

I'm having deja vu that I might have talked about Katy Perry a year ago on the 4th of July, but if I did I'm about to do it again! ;)
Happy 4th of July lovelies! I'm now in Utah again after spending more than a month in CA. I'll be back in CA again in about a month, so until then I'm going to spend time with my family, work (of course), and enjoy the summer time. I'm happy and excited.
I'm also excited to start blogging more regularly. I know I've been absent and filling in my holes with guest posts (fabulous ones at that but I'm biased), but now I'm going to start blogging more frequently because nothing makes me happier! I realize that I blog for everyone else but I need to make more time to blog for me. So with that being said, I'm going to start with a review of the movie Part of Me {which I thought was appropriate since Katy inspires us to shine and it is the 4th of July!! }
{taken at the theater when I went to the fan sneak peek on the 2nd}

I thought the movie was really good. I had never really seen a "documentary" of a singer before, so it gave me a fresh new perspective in regards to how they are filmed. I thought this film did a great job at capturing a little bit of everything, from Katy's passion for music, her doomed marriage to Russell Brand (hate to say that but it's true), her Teenage Dream tour, her family life, and her lovely personality.
It was refreshing to see a glimpse of the true Katy and she seems very kind, funny, sweet, and down to earth. I found myself wishing for her success and felt very empathetic for her when she explained her hard times. I also loved her interacting with her grandmother. Not only is her grandma a crack up, she has the type of personality that you want every elderly person to have - full of life and laughter. By the way, Katy is hilarious too! I think if I were to hang out with her I would be laughing all of the time and that's awesome.
If you're looking to watch Katy sing a song in its entirety in Park of Me it's not going to happen because the producers manage to weave the songs in between interviews and fan reviews. Some people may not like this, but I think it works well. It wouldn't be a documentary if they took 5-10 minutes at a time of only showing songs. I do think they did a great job with editing and allowing us to know a side of Katy that was not known before.
There are also raw moments when she breaks down in tears before a show in Brazil over the end of her marriage with Russell. Later she honesty and quite vulnerably tells us what went wrong: she's still a baby she says and "babies can't have babies." That's well put Katy I remember thinking - just when I thought I should settle down, get married, and have kids too {peer pressure!}, I was reminded yet again that I am a baby too and it's okay to wait. FYI Katy is 27 just like me.

Ironically I actually had tickets to her Dream Tour but was in a different state at the time so I unfortunately had to sell them. So it was nice to see parts of her tour and I'm sure the entire concert will come out on DVD down the road as well. The fairy tale and candy land of sorts that she dreamed up and brought to life was amazing and her costumes?! I love her costumes. Check out her peacock costume = amazingness.
Another thing that stuck with me, which I may get into more in a future post, is her hair! I'm always in awe how she can actually dye her hair blue or pink. I honestly don't know how her hair takes it, but she looks stunning however she does it. I think we're currently experiencing a Katy hair generation because now that she has shown America that it is okay to be you, everyone is showing their true colors, quite literally! ;) This includes colored hair and all! I love it and I love that she's not afraid to back down. She continues to set great goals and follows her heard. After all, she reminds us all that "baby you're a firework." I'm sure Katy needs to remind herself every once in a while that she's a firework too.
So on this 4th of July, let's not forget that we are a firework. We were born to shine, just like Katy. Of course for most of us this doesn't mean becoming a pop star who has 5 hits from one record (she's the first one EVER) to do this by the way. We can shine in our own way, by being a mother, nurse, friend, sales person, writer, or whatever your profession or job may be.
After the movie I had the option to pick up a fun Katy poster that reminds me of her darling look - a pin up girl with a vintage flair and bold and colorful style too! Even though I have nowhere to put a poster, I grabbed one and smiled to myself when I saw young girls look at me with a smile too. Hey - I'm 27 and I can be a Katy fan too, I thought. So I snapped a photo of my Katy 3D glasses and the poster and posted it on my Instagram and Facebook page. So what if I'm 27 and a Katy fan?! ;) Take a look:
{taken via my Instagram}

So on this 4th of July, I'll think of Katy and how she inspires me to follow my dreams and never back down because baby, I'm a firework! ;) You are a firework too ocean dreamers!
