Holiday Cleaning Checklist: Keeping Your Home Clean and Tidy

I don't know about you, but I've been doing a lot of cleaning this past week! BK came to visit Candy and me in Arizona, and I had to deep clean and tidy up the place not only for BK but for my parents as well, who are staying at my place over the holidays. Whew! If I would have stayed on top of my cleaning even more (disclaimer: it's not that I'm a messy person at all lol,) then it would have been a lot easier. Here are some great holiday cleaning tips. Merry Christmas Eve!

With the holidays just around the corner it may seem impossible to keep your house clean and tidy. The kids are constantly bringing friends over and family continuously is popping over at your home just when you have time to spare. Despite the craziness of the holidays you can’t put off cleaning inside your home. The more you put off the small cleaning tasks that you can take care of the more buildup, dirt, and muck you’ll have in your home. Stay on top of daily cleaning tasks by doing them right away and sticking with a plan. Here are some ideas on how to keep your home clean. After all, it’s important to prevent rodents, bed bugs, and other pests that can show up when sheets aren’t changed, food is left out and there isn’t time to clean.

The kitchen is an important area to keep clean because this is where termites and other pests can show up. You can clear out the sink by staying on top of the dirty dishes. Move any dirty dishes into the dishwasher and if you don’t have a dishwasher clean the dishes as soon as possible and set them out to dry. Wiping down the countertops and stove is another quick task you can take care of. Use a sponge with an all purpose cleaner. Wipe down problem spots on the floor as well and get rid of spills and sticky spots. Also, if you have clean towels that have yet to be folded take a few minutes and fold them and put them away. Unfolded towels can look messy in a tidy kitchen.

Keep your bedroom tidy by making your bed daily and it’s also important to change the sheets on your bed once a week or every two weeks depending on if your kids go to bed without showering sometimes. Bedbug prevention is simple if you keep your bedroom and other rooms tidy and clean, so having the family clean up after themselves daily is important. This should also include clearing away any clutter you may have. You can also fold and put clean clothes away that may be still lying on your bed or in the hamper. Straightening up the night-table surface is another quick task that can keep things clean and help you feel more relaxed in your bedroom.

Living Room

This may be the most challenging room of all to keep clean, depending on where your family likes to hang out during the holidays. Start small by tidying the sofa by fluffing the pillows and folding the throws. Pull out your handheld vacuum and concentrate on the surfaces that are in plain site: coffee table, sofa cushions, and rugs in the middle of the room. After that you can use a moist cloth to wipe down streaky or dusty hard surfaces. You can also keep things tidy by straightening coffee table books and magazines. After you’re done with these tasks don’t forget to clear away major clutter such as video games, toys, and anything else you or the kids can trip over.

"She looks like a little candy marshmallow"

"She looks like a little candy marshmallow...."

That's what a neighbor lady said today at my apartment complex. Candy and I were walking by her deck after our walk (Candy clearly likes to walk me since she walks so fast) and the neighbor lady's little Yorkie was barking. I asked her if her dog was a Yorkie and we got into a conversation about how she rescued her pup named Meme (super cute name by the way) and yes that's how you spell it, and I told her Candy's name. She immediately said she loved the color of her hair and said "she looks like a little candy marshmallow."
What she was was not only sweet, but it summarized how I felt about Candy's personality and beautiful hair without me not even knowing it. My neighbor lady conveyed what I felt and said it in a perfect way. To me with that simple quote she reminded me just how sweet my little Candy is.
BK once said I shouldn't have named my little miss Morkie Candy, because she is so sassy. However, even though Candy is sassy and a "tiger" as BK likes to say, she is very sweet too. She curls up on my lap while I work and seems to know when I'm having a hard day. She'll even lick an area on my leg or foot that's in pain and look at me with concern with her big puppy dog eyes. Candy really is my candy marshmallow is more ways than one.
She's oh so sweet. After she gets groomed she smells like cotton Candy and she smells oh so good. She looks like a marshmallow with it's golden brown and blonde coloring. She melts my heart and I can't think of a better pup to love with all of my heart.

Caring for Your Beautiful Skin During the Winter

Dry skin during the winter time is never fun to battle with. Just when you think your skin is moisturized and looks beautiful once more, your dry skin comes back. If you live in a dry climate it’s even more difficult to keep your skin moist and looking its best. Not to mention if you live in an extra chilly climate you have cold and dry weather combined to deal with. Instead of feeling like there is no way out of dry and cracked skin, here are some techniques that should get your skin back in excellent shape in no time.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin really is the key to getting rid of dead skin cells and allowing new skin to grow in its place. You don’t want to scrub so hard that you damage your skin, but you do want to scrub regularly so that new skin will emerge. Exfoliate your fact, arm, legs, etc. and do this at least every other day when you take your shower. If you have dry feet you may want to purchase a pumice stone or another tool will help you take care of extra rough skin.

Facial and Cosmetic Surgery

Besides exfoliation and moisturizing, you may have some impurities you would like to remove on your skin. Whether you crave small beauty enhancements or cosmetic surgery techniques finding a healthcare team and skincare specialists you trust is important. Minimally invasive treatments are also available from skincare specialists. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and improve your face and more with a treatment that will enhance your skin.

Invest in a Recommended Moisturizer

If you find that your current moisturizer isn’t doing the trick perhaps the reason why is because it’s not the type of moisturizer that works well with your skin type. Do some research on the recommended moisturizers and be willing to invest some money in a great product such as Kiehl’s or Oil of Olay. You can also make an appointment with a dermatologist and ask them what they would recommend for your skin type. Once you are trying a new moisturizer that is recommended don’t switch to another one right away if you don’t think its working. Give it at least a month to work its magic on your skin.

Use Sunscreen, Even During the Winter

Many people make the mistake and think just because the weather is cold they don’t have to wear sunscreen. It’s quite the opposite actually. When the sun is out you always need to be careful and avoid UV rays for extended periods of time. If you have a job that’s out in the sun wear sunscreen every day. You can put sunscreen on your face and the rest of your body and in addition you can wear makeup that has sunscreen in it. Remember to apply sunscreen regularly because if you’re outside and sweating the sunscreen will come off. It’s up to you to make sure your skin is protected so you won’t get skin damage or worse skin cancer later in life.
